Customs Seizes Smuggled Cigarettes Valued at MVR 3 Million




The MCS has intercepted a significant quantity of smuggled cigarettes valued at MVR 3 million, falsely declared as tissue paper upon importation into the Maldives.


The contraband was imported on May 19th under the guise of 343 cartons of tissue paper according to declaration records. Acting on intelligence information regarding the shipment, a special operation was conducted on Thursday, uncovering the true contents of the cargo container.

The confiscated goods have been seized, and the case is currently under investigation as a smuggling offense.
