Customs has confiscated drugs that were attempted to be smuggled into the Maldives by air.


The seizure took place on August 21, 2023, during the inspection of an air cargo shipment that arrived from Malaysia on flight UL103. A suspicious substance was detected, leading to further examination and inspection. During the initial testing phase of the suspected narcotics, the substance tested positive for heroin. The total weight of the seized drugs, including packaging, was 1628 grams, with an estimated street value of 2 million Maldivian Rufiyaa.


For further investigation, the seized narcotics have now been handed over to the Maldives Police Service.
