Customs has seized a total of 2.389 kilograms of narcotics that were attempted to be imported into the Maldives through courier and postal services.


The narcotics were seized during inspections of parcels brought into the Maldives via courier and postal services during September and October of this year. The seizures were made after suspicious substances were found during routine checks, leading to further inspections. In this regard, suspected narcotics were found in five different cases. In four of these cases, initial testing by Customs revealed positive results for Synthetic Cathinone. In one case, initial testing by Customs showed positive results for Mephedrone. Further details of these cases are as follows.   


On 07/09/2023, 510g of Synthetic Cathinone.


On 28/09/2023, 100g of Synthetic Cathinone.


On 12/10/2023, 989.6g of Synthetic Cathinone.


On 19/10/2023, 520g of Synthetic Cathinone.


On 25/10/2023, 270g of Mephedrone.


The total weight of the narcotics seized in these cases was 2.389 kilograms. And for further investigation of these cases, the seized narcotics have now been handed over to the Maldives Police Service.
